Kelly Carlin Returns

Kelly Carlin returns to Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend to talk about her new book A Carlin Home Companion, growing up in the shadow of her larger than life father George Carlin, suffering panic attacks as a young person, getting into an abusive relationship in high school, the magnetic draw of certain personalities, psychology, her mother’s alcoholism and her own drug experiences, enmeshment, family systems, the time her dad freaked out on bad acid, becoming aware of family dysfunction, her relationship with her dad near the end of his life and his relationship with the species, feelings of betrayal and so much more. Plus we took your questions over twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Great listen. I shudder to think how a young George Carlin would fare in today's censored (let's be honest) culture. In his day, it was comedians who pushed the envelope and made us all face the true nature of society. I appreciate Kelly opening up, and hope she knows few comedically educated people will remember her dad as the curmudgeon he so often portrayed. I very much enjoy Alison interviewing guests other shows may not.
Also, Daniel is freaking killing it with his Thursday intros. He takes that preparation seriously, and it shows. Keep up the great work, to both of them.

I thoroughly enjoyed this interview. The chemistry was great and Kelly's and Alison's insights were fascinating. They really seemed to get each other, which makes for great a great interview. I'm now a fan of Kelly's and will purchase her book…through Alison's link, of course.:)
