On this episode which we recorded one day before Jenna’s due date (spoiler alert: she’s still pregnant) we talked about cervical ripeness, my buying pre-peeled hard cooked eggs because I’m a “useless sack of shit,” how to properly boil eggs at home, mint ice cream and whether it’s gross or not (#AL and #ALISON say it is), Greg officiating at his sister’s wedding, books vs Kindles, eating dogs and cats, googling upsetting things, massages at barbershops, sunglasses and rudeness and so much more. Plus we did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

I love the pull for this episode's title. So funny that Daniel referenced Alison's irritation that she
was being interrupted from last week's
episode in this week's intro. The dog and cat meat chat nearly did me in! Greg's wedding story was sweet. I love how excited he and his Mormon friends
got about him knowing Jenna. How fun that she was like a rock star to them! We lie books to be displayed too. We feel like
it's a quick reference to our interests/personality. I like the feel and sound
of turning the paper pages of books. I
can't imagine hating mint. I guess Daniel is lucky that Alison doesn't like
mint and salt and vinegar chips, because they are pretty good snacks that he
can have in the house. Like Al, I feel
weird about brushing hair off my face that they might have missed while I'm
getting a haircut. I don't want to call attention to it and make them feel bad
that they missed it. I don't want
a massage, but if I did, I don't think I'd be comfortable with a man massaging
me. While I'm not worthy to be as
super of a fan as B Slamin who puts tons of work into Alison's fan podcast
(JMOE Patrol), I'm so glad to be put in the Super Fan category by Alison!!:) Yes, it's no good if somebody makes reference
to me looking like I'm sick or tired if I don't feel like I am, I just feel
validated if I do feel sick or tired and somebody acknowledges that I look like
I am.:)

Have I mentioned I hate doctors? My wife's doctor asked if we wanted the membranes scraped and we said no. Less than two hours later she went into labor, so we think he did something. We think he did it before he asked and never really told us what it would do. Not a huge deal, but it didn't make me change my opinion on doctors.
After the birth at the hospital. FOOOOOOOD. Take Al a sub sandwich or a burrito and Jenna a pale of Diet Coke you will be a hero.

I love books too, they are kind of like friends. However, I have had to change the way I consume books due to finances and space. The thing that worked for me is that I keep a log on Goodreads of what I've read (I go back to it a lot, too, so I'm glad I have stuck with it). The other thing that has helped is that I always have a huge “to read” list and I will look for the next book I want to read at my local library first. If I can't find it there, I try to find the next one on my list and so on. If I really get in a pickle, I buy the book used. I'm lucky to live in the PDX area so I have access to Powell's as well as other excellent indie stores.
For my last b-day I bought myself a Kindle (just a Paperwhite – only good for reading, really) because I knew I couldn't take enough books to last me a 3 week trip to Europe. It has turned out to be a great investment as I have found lots of free or deeply discounted Kindle versions of books (on Amazon and BookBub) and it's also good for my local library – which will sometimes be out of physical copies of the book I want but the ebook is available. So, while I'm not a total convert to ebooks, it has helped me save some money but still be able to enjoy reading – so I'm thankful for that.
I have also discovered the wonderfulness that is the inter-library-loan (ILL). You can literally get any book you want as long as some library somewhere has it and participates in ILLs. This is what I use for a lot of reference books (for example, I'm into tapestry weaving, but those books are expensive and often scarce). Good stuff!
