I included Dirty Diet Coke in this episode title because ever since Jenna talked about it on the show, I can’t stop thinking about it. I am to Dirty Diet Coke as Greg Heller is to Mormon Funeral Potatoes. Also, I’ve decided to write these show descriptions in a different way. What do you think? Lemme know. I can easily go back to taking myself out of the description however let’s be real, I am writing these words. Anyhoozles, Jenna and Al and Greg were back on this episode and joined Jeff, Daniel and me for a chat about almost getting run over by a bike on the sidewalk (while I was texting), tap dancing, Adoption vs. IVF and people being kinda dickish online, Greg’s fishing and surfing trip, bathroom habits, peach air freshener, the extendo version of The Fruit Song, Greg’s dream about Anderson Cooper, shaking hands with the unemployed (i.e. masturbation), Pretty Little Liars, Gilmore Girls and more. Plus we did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Great episode! I was proud of how Jenna and Al handled the Mormon questions and some of them were a little tough. I appreciate the respetfulness that everyone displayed during the discussion. The one thing that I'd say about Daniel's claim that Mormons have a lot of secrets, particularly that people who aren't members of the church can't go into the sacred parts of the temple (they may go into the visitors' center), is that it's more that we need to keep the temple a sacred place, not so much a secret place. People make fun of and ridicule our church enough, so we'd like to keep the parts that are most important to us more private so that they won't be stomped on by people who don't understand or people who hate us. It was fun to hear the fruit song in its entirety, even though it was also painful for the reason that Greg outlined!:) I look forward to Greg's remix! We need it! Also, I like t new way of writing the show description.:)
I have never commented on anything in my life but I feel the need to tell the ARIYNBF gang that they are doing an excellent job! My husband, has listened to Adam Carolla for years and I would painfully sit through those episodes on car rides and wonder, “who is this asshole?” My husband, tired of me complaining started to listen to the Alison Rosen podcast instead while I was around. I started listening and loved it. SInce leaving her former employer I feel her shows have gotten even better. I was also delighted to find JKJ and #Al on the Thursday shows. From Utah, and a practicing LDS member I have to say I love hearing from them and can relate to many of their stories. This episode especially! OMG funeral potatoes are the best, please have JKJ make them for you! I have now started to listen to SNS and love it as well! At first I was not so sure I liked Greg on the show but, now he is my favorite! I often find myself laughing out loud at work while I listen. Thanks for recording each week and making my work days a little more enjoyable.

Even more generally, orphaning is a social problem. Not a fertility patient problem. How 'bout POACOTTs?

This is the second time I've heard Daniel make a joke about passing his genes along. While I assume it's true that adoption is just as much the expensive long-haul that IVF is, if you don't care about your genes, name, etc., then there's essentially no reason whatsoever to want to get pregnant. And since adoption is so expensive and time-consuming, one would think you would choose the option that would most likely result in a child and put your money and time there.
If you're going to joke about something that you're actually doing, maybe a bit more irony is in order.

But even if he's not joking, it's not wrong for him to want to keep his bloodline going and this is coming from somebody who was adopted, has 8 adopted siblings and plans to adopt.

Propagating their genetic code is the primary function of every organism on planet Earth. I understand the need for great adoptive parents, and would fully support it, but please do not fault people for trying to do what is literally written into their DNA. We all love Alison and Daniel, and I feel their offspring will have a great head start, comedically anyway. Daniels tongue in cheek explanation was very funny.
Loved the talk of Mormonism with Greg and #AL's 2 cents relating it to Judaism.
I always enjoy Daniel's intros. I knew where he was going with the pea soup, but still cracked up at the punch line. The box of chocolates was quite funny as well.
I am no hypnotist who wears goggles, but I occasionally have lucid dreams where I am able to read, so I don't think that it is the left/right brain indicator some people claim it is.

I agree completely. Most of us descend from such people, and I don't think it's an unevolved or provincial attitude to have. That's why the joke struck me as strange (and it was definitely a joke, as Greg picked up on the intent and told his own story reinforcing it).

Yes, I do believe it was a joke, to poke fun at people who keep judging them for not just adopting. I think it's super unfair of people to be so judgmental about it.

I agree that Alison's show (both Monday and Thursday episodes) is even better since she left ACS.
Society in general thinks commenting on individual's reproductive choices (especially when those choices are discussed by women – you know, the ones who's body's are doing all the gestating, laboring, delivering and lactating OR not) is a-ok and open season is year round. But it's not. There is nothing wrong with doing IVF if that is what you want to do. There is nothing wrong with adopting if that is what you want to do. There is nothing wrong with using a surrogate or a donated egg or artificial insemination, etc. The only thing that is “wrong” is judging people for their reproductive choices when it has absolutely zero to do with the judge(r). Unless it's your body that is involved, shut your face about it already.

No reason whatsoever? What about a woman who truly wants that experience? To feel a child grow within her? I would never trade that experience for anything.
