Ryan is a cool guy and I love his “Baltimore area” accent. His laugh is infectious, too! His story is so interesting and he seems like he is very resilient. Sounds like his mom had / has a personality disorder. My understanding is narcissism is one of the core traits in every personality disorder, so not sure which one she was dealing with, but wow she was a pro at it.

Two really good books about having parents with personality disorders (the second is specifically geared toward daughters with PD / narcissistic moms):

    1. Toxic Parents by Susan Forward and Craig Buck
    2. Will I Ever Be Good Enough by Karyl McBride

Although I didn't have PD parents, I read both of these books when I was contemplating becoming a therapist (I still may, someday!). I've heard that one of the biggest reasons people seek therapy is because one or more people in their life has a PD.

Ryan was a fantastic guest ! I have a new podcast to listen to from now on Crabfest! I have been trying to find some good pods recently because some of my old favs have worn on my nerves a bit (NOT ARIYNBF!!). I found myself getting a little choked up at times during this episode – really great all the way around.

ps to Gary – you may be perfectly absolutely fine and in of no need of an atta-person (poltically correct but harder to say) – but hang in there dude, you're doing a fantastic job at a place that sounds to those of us who merely listen to its products as if mere mortals would crumble trying to do their absolute best 110 percent of the time, but your efforts are noticed and appreciated by the listening public.

Loved this episode. My four year old was listening in the backseat and when Caelen's corner jingle was over he started singing “that was Eli's corner, yes it was”. He did the entire thing perfectly…even the “hello” and “yay!” Good thing my truck has a mute button for the hey go fuck yourself ringtone!
