Alison, you always introduce me to cool people I have not heard of before – hooray! Love Esther, so sweet and funny and authentic. I will have to check out her site & twitter.

It makes me so happy when people are honest about their struggles with anxiety, depression and just mental health in general. Even though my particular brand of anxiety isn't health / illness related like Esther's, I totally get the catastrophizing, thinking errors, sadness, etc. I'm also really happy that she shared her experience with intensive outpatient mental health treatment. It is so important to destigmatize mental health disorders AND treatment and that is done when people talk openly about it in all kinds of venues. Yay!

Alison: I think I've probably said this before, but bear with me: not only was Oliver the cutest dog ever (and very young when he passed), JUST him being attacked by another dog was a traumatic event for you and Daniel. The fact that you came home from your honeymoon to go through attempting to treat his injuries and then had to put him down AND that process being ANOTHER trauma on top of the first is a perfect recipe for extended and complex grief (and, by the way, I wouldn't even call it extended at this point – it wasn't that long ago!). Honestly, your grief seems TOTALLY normal and natural to me. You are trying to get over two massively traumatic events plus the death of your pet. That is a tall order for anyone, let alone a person who experiences anxiety on the regular.

Also: commentators who are “tired of hearing about the dog” can go FUCK themselves. You talk about Oliver all you want. I want to hear whatever it is you have to say.

    Huuuuuuuuuuugs!
