Daniel Quantz (Alison’s husband) returns to Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend to discuss the experience and the grief of losing Oliver. Also some behind the scenes discussions of errands and scheduling. And a thank you to the listeners for all their support during this sad time. We also did a round of Just Me Or Everyone (click here to see the JMOEs from this episode).

Although Oliver's life was much too short, all of you received a lifetime of cherished memories that can never be replaced. Some people live their entire lives and never get an opportunity for this much happiness. Stay positive and I'm so sorry for your loss.

It really sucks to hear Alison cry :(… Daniel's story behind the wedding picture was hard to read, too. I'm so sorry about Oliver.

Compromise to the Caelan's corner controversy —
You run the whole drop the first time, but if it comes up again, you do the short version. It's more of a quick callback the second time around, so you want something punchier that doesn't slow down the rhythm of the show.

That sounds like a good idea…
Love the pic of the 3 of you!!! I can tell from your smiles how much you both loved Oliver… Like hearing from Daniel every now and then, he seems like a really great guy…
Best of luck to you both…

Alison and Daniel – Thank you for this podcast…So sorry for your loss… I fell in love with Oliver the first time I saw his picture… and was secretly hoping that you would have a new Oliver pic up for every podcast JMOE? Thanks for letting your story and grief out.. We are losing our 7 yr. old Great Dane (Daisy) to bone cancer.. and have been struggling with facing the inevitable for over 3 months.. Your openness and unabashed feelings have been very comforting.

So sorry for your loss. We've had a similar experience(s) with our dog Charlie. He was attacked when I was walking him by a neighbor's large mutt that got out of their backyard. Fortunately I was able to pull him out of the other dog's grip and he only had some minor scrapes (and I was right in front of our house screaming and my husband couldn't hear me – so comforting!). Secondly, the day before we went on our belated honeymoon to Mexico, his back legs completely stopped working. So he was under 24/7 supervision at the vet's while we were on vacation and we communicating via email the whole time. Thankfully, when we got back he started to show slight improvement so we started a long road to recovery of helping him stand, cleaning out his kennel he was confined to (he had no bladder control so it was constantly wet) and thankfully he's made almost a complete recovery over a year later. Your story reminds me to be thankfully for his little face even when I wake up to the smell of dog crap at 2 am because he still doesn't have complete control and probably never will.

I had the most wonderful dog for 13 years from when I was 12 until I was 25. I went and got a new puppy just a few days later. For me, it was important to get a different dog – different color, slightly different breed.
It's different for everyone. Don't push yourselves into getting a new dog but don't worry too much about it either. Talk to your team of therapists.
