Nikki is wonderful – I love her spirit. Good for her for embracing what works for her, standing up for herself and living authentically. I loved it when she was talking about “small steps” like not telling her agent that she was worried about the “super hot” description in an audition call and being gentle with herself. YES, GIRL! AMEN! Good for you and thank you for talking about this. It is so important to be kind to yourself as much as possible, everyday. It can and does change lives. Spread this gospel!!!

Let's face it: society has ridiculous expectations of girls and women and treats them like shit. We have been taught to hate ourselves and treat ourselves badly – so please don't blame yourself for doing just that. It is difficult to unlearn, even with years of therapy, support, medication, education, and so on. It's a hell of a journey – especially with most of the rest of the world absolutely working against you. Human first, a gender identity you are comfortable with second, and equality always. Everything else can fuck off.

I quit smoking (after 19 years) with Allan Carr's book, too!

What else? Oh, Alison, next time Adam says “can we just call them cans” or something like that, please punch him in the face. How about stop policing other people's vocab, Adam. Lord Almighty. Wait – maybe hit the HGFY button on the board – that would be perfect. 🙂

    I heart you guys!

Wow. This episode really hit home for me. Thanks of the candid discussions about eating disorders and alcohol. I've always had a hard time explaining to people why I don't drink any more. I don't consider myself an alcoholic, but I made way too many bad decisions while drinking in my 20s. I don't enjoy just a glass of wine with dinner, and it's almost like drinking anything brings me back to a time I'd rather not relive. Thanks, once again, for putting how I feel into words. The podcast is worth way more than it's entertainment value.
