Josh inspired me to name my massive dong “The Potato Gun”. Thanks, bro!

Your interview of Josh Gardner reminded of Adam Carolla's comment on interviewing the Aquabats. Hopefully at some point (I couldn't listen to it for very long) you told him to stop trying out bits on you.

I'm utterly confused, befuddled and have a little bit of a headache.

I am an idiot. I have listened to Adam for 6 years and never really knew or thought about Deaf Frat Guy being just a bit.

Hah, Steve. To be fair, I imagine it's because he typically doesn't go out of character. Normally, people don't or can't do characters that straight and the characters don't have the depth/specificity of DFG's back story.

As far as how the show went, I'm shocked that anyone couldn't tell that the bulk of what he was saying was in jest between knowing who he is and listening to what he was saying. He's an entertainer who doesn't enjoy fame/spotlight/the machine so to speak. Expecting him to bare his soul, share his deepest secrets or share his childhood memories is kind of silly. He deflected the “where were you born?” question (rather oddly asked immediately after Alison says we don't have time to explore your soul/story or whatever to which he replied not to bother [a clue that he wasn't interested in sharing, maybe?]) with a rather hilarious joke about Parkinson's. He was less deft in deflecting the other questions, but eventually opened up a bit about his past work before going back to deflecting.

I'm sure that this is going to come off as me being a crazy fan and/or apologist for him, but I do not enjoy his music (at all, really) and I love the ARIYNBF podcast. I also rather enjoy the Monday shows but listening to this one I just came off with this feeling like Alison wasn't listening or wasn't prepared for the interview. Josh brings up that he worked on SNL (you know, crazy famous comedy institution that most comedians would die to work in/for?), she mentions that she forgot/didn't know this and the only follow-up question is who was running the weekend update desk? But there's time for tracing where he lived and when? And “Where did you meet your wife?” and “What did she do (for work)?” and “Do you have any siblings?” …. …. …. and no mention of MADtv?

I'm glad that I skipped over the pre-show apology (wasn't what it was called, but it's what it was) and listened to it after the show. Don't think that it was needed at all. If they're going to apologize for people doing bits, apologize for that awful schtick that Jake and Amir did a few weeks back. Thus far that's the only show I did not finish listening to, and that was after three tries. Is that really what passes for college humor these days? Felt more like middle school humor.

I think DFG is funny, but the “real” Josh Gardner is a painful listen. I put “real” in quotes because I feel like nothing he said was genuine or close to being really true. Still feel like I have no idea who Josh Gardner really is. I couldn't take anything he said seriously, he just sounded like he was straining to make a bit out of everything he could. Ugh, it was brutal. Kudos to you Alison for acting professional and not getting annoyed.

    Agree
I wish Alison would have paused the interview and let him know that her audience enjoys “real life” history.
    Painful was a great description.
    Waste of bandwidth.
I do believe he has a great story to tell and is an upstanding gentle person.

Take Careful everyone – keep up the good work.

That was brutal. I couldn't listen for more than 5 minutes. I was hoping he would stop, but I couldn't take it anymore. I guess this guys wheelhouse is 10 minutes of DFG on Carolla

kurt cobain made up stories about himself cuz he thought the truth was too boring. he was a big star so his origin story should be epic. dfg isn't a big star like cobain, but he has a small amount of fame. he's made me crack up many times recently. he probably thought nobody would want to hear a straight interview.

i just googled josh gardner snl and found out he wrote for norm when he did the weekend update. i never knew that.

I've been listening to ARIYNBF for over a year now, and this is the first episode I haven't finished… I actually chose to listen to my coworkers instead of the podcast… If you can't be funny, be interesting, if you can't be interesting, be funny… Josh was neither….

it's funny how some of alison's fans clearly aren't adam carolla fans. you can't be if you bailed on the dfg in 5 minutes. i guess there are a couple dozen of you out there.
