Nikki Glaser returns to Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend to talk about her reluctance to agree to be a guest on podcasts after her boyfriend broke up with her for things she publicly aired (they’ve since reunited), “being sweet,” her Comedy Central pilot NSFW, potentially opening up her relationship, turn-ons, ASMR, drinking and repeating stories, super cute sister syndrome, cereal and snack chat and so much more. We also did a round of Just Me Or Everyone (click here to see the JMOEs from this episode).

An ARIYNBF fan over at Reddit posted a link to an ARIYNBF episode archive page he created. It's very handy. Here's a link to the archive: https://ariynbfarchive.wordpre…
Alison might want to think about adding such an archive page to her own Website. She could put a “Podcast archive” link on her main Website and on her ARIYNBF pages. It would be very handy. And it's very simple to do.

Let me tell you a story that I think might actually be true. All college girls look beautiful to old dudes, from what I hear. I would assume that high school girls who look exactly like college girls to older eyes also look beautiful. Not attractive, beautiful.
But I don't think it is all about age. What I think happens is when you are middle school you are fixated on comparing yourself against the very best. This is my theory on why middle school is the worst. Everyone is on this one-dimensional ranking system. I think that is why bullying peaks around that time. When you get to high school everyone filters into band or drama or athletics and then tries to be the best at a more narrow niche.
When you get out of that cesspool your brain starts to repair itself. Beautiful is a threshold, not a #1 slot. So, I don't think her dad was necessarily completely lying.

There's a search box for finding specific stuff, but I do like the idea of an archive link specifically for podcasts.
On topic: love me some Glaser. Really good episode.

Love Love Nikki Glaser! I miss her on We Know Nothing – it's not the same without her! 🙁

Thanks for the tip about the search box. The search box does help out sometimes. Usually it comes up short though. Sometimes I haven't been able to remember the name of the guest or topic. So I want to scan the past episodes until I spot it.
And searches for specific words often don't work. If, for example, you do a search for “Pete Holmes”, you don't just get the episodes where Alison interviewed Pete Holmes. You get a long list of dozens of episodes and blog entries where the name Pete Holmes came up in the description or links or anywhere else. (The search function applies to her entire website, not just the ARIYNBF episodes.) Then you're right back to clicking backwards through pages and pages of “Older Entries” to find what you're looking for.
An archive page isn't essential or anything. Most people would have no use for it, I suppose. I just tossed out the suggestion because it's really easy to make one and some people might find it useful from time to time.

About bodily pain having nonphysical causes- Miss Glaser was touching on psychogenic conditions (meaning originating in the mind), which I think is considered to be somewhat more modern than psychosomatic, or at least carries less of the “it's all in your head” stigma. Almost like phantom limb pain, people have various pain syndromes which aren't directly related to an obvious physical injury, but they are often still very much in pain.
There's a similar issue with drug addiction- conventional wisdom says that people who get srung out on painkillers then lie about having pain to get more meds, but that's not strictly true. Long term use of opiod painkillers is associated with a hyperalgesia, which is basically your brain making everything super painful so you give it more drugs. It is something like a prolonged drug withdrawal.
To use a pop culture example: If you remember Jeff Conoway when he was on Celebrity Rehab, he was constantly complaining about how much pain he was in from a back injury. He'd become addicted to super high doses of them, and had multiple surgeries to fix the pain (as Glaser had also talked about), but nothing would actually work. The pain began to get better when I actually had a stopped taking the meds for a sustained period of time, but sadly he was still a drug addict and things didn't end well for him.

Edit: incidentally, Mr. Conaway described having been severely sexually abused as a child, so maybe this is an example of both at once.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Nikki Glaser. She is funny, authentic and a gosh-darn delight.
Alison, totally serious question here: what do you eat? Honestly, you listed a lot of things that you don't eat (or buy at the grocery store at any rate) and it really made me wonder what you DO eat. I hope that doesn't come across as offensive, but I'm honestly curious. I'm kind of picky and hate cooking / preparing food so that affects a lot of what I eat. I was super diet focused from the age of about 12 to around 19, then dumped it and ate whatever for a few years after that, and then I went to what I do now: try to eat on the healthier side but refuse to feel guilty or bad for eating pizza or a burger or whatever. I'm really good at eating a healthy breakfast, but everything after that is harder. I have found that I can exercise and keep up with that lifestyle, but if I try to eat “healthier” than I already do, I almost immediately fail. I think it's because food is comfort and there is just no replacement for that for me.
