I blame Denver

Well I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that I won’t be on Red Eye on Monday because there won’t be Red Eye on Monday because of the conventions. The good news is that there’s a bruise on my left arm which, if you look at the underside of my arm you can see the vein and the bruise is kinda smack in the middle of veinville (which sounds like a disgusting porno location, doesn’t it?) and so it looks like an oil spill in the middle of the road, under my skin, but it’s getting smaller. The bad news is that I can’t have pets in my new place. The good news is that I’m going to be hosting the video component of this big festival in New York that’s going to be bringing together a bunch of cool bands and filmmakers and design people and DJs and I’ll be interviewing them and whatnot, on camera, so if you’re needing your fix of me which, let’s face it, YOU ARE, you will be able to get that next month for ten days, more than once a day. The bad news is that I’m sleepy. The good news is that I may even be doing yoga on video for the first time ever. The bad news is that I won’t be able to keep a straight face. The good news is that I really enjoy hosting and this will give me a chance to really flex my host muscle. The bad news is that I pulled my host muscle carrying groceries and man does it ache. The good news is that host muscle weighs more than fat, but it’s more dense, so you might be losing inches. The bad news is that there’s no good TV on tonight.

I feel like I had more and better good and bad news, but it just didn’t come together as I’d hoped.

A shot from Red Eye last night

Usually when I’m on TV I’m able to escape completely from all the stuff gnawing at me in real life and just go into performer mode, which I think is why I like it so much, but last night for some reason I couldn’t get away from anything and so I just felt a little weird the whole night. Not sure how apparent it was, but you can kind of see it in this photo.

And then I beat myself up because I feel like if I were a TRUE professional I should be able to get past anything that might be weighing on me. I mean, not to be ghoulish, but I went on TV the night after I found out my grandma died and it provided a welcome distraction.

Anyway, yeah. I want to live in a safe little TV bubble but last night dumb things—inconsequential things really—were intruding!

Once again Shamrock has given me the gift of me

Last night on Red Eye Andy asked if I’d come up with any more New Yorker cartoons in my mind and I mentioned this one. The awesome Shamrock made this and posted it on The Activity Pit. Now, I should say that despite the way I titled this post he didn’t actually give ME the gift of me. He gave all of YOU the gift of me and for that you are thankful. (for the explanation of this one… because good cartoons need explanation of course… watch the video below or read the “if I drew cartoons” thread.

I think like a meteorologist

At least, that’s the conclusion I drew after Rick Reichmuth and I almost made each other’s points repeatedly on Red Eye tonight. You may not be able to tell because we each switched gears upon hearing the other one make the point we were about to make, but that’s what was going on behind the scenes. It was uncanny. Also, there was a lot of rain.

Hey look, it's me… again!

There’s a lot of me on TV Saturday night/Sunday morning, in fact I feel slightly obnoxious pointing it out, which is weird because I’m all about talking about myself. I feel it’s my duty. Plus, I enjoy it. So I don’t really know what this sudden bashfulness is, but I know it feels foreign and I don’t like it one bit. Shall my horn go untooted? I think not.

Now, to the TV:

I’m on Chelsea Lately at 11:30pm and 2:30am on E!

Red Eye at 2am ET/11pm PT on Fox News Channel

Weekend Today in New York at 7:40am on channel 4 (WNBC-TV)

Chelsea Lately and Red Eye are repeats, but maybe I’ll say something different this time.

more cartoons

Tuesday night on Red Eye, Andy asked me if I’d drawn any more New Yorker cartoons in my head, which I so had, and I mentioned the one where a hunk of cheese is telling an obscene joke and the caption is “Blue Cheese.” Well Activity Pit member “Shamrock Republic” has once again made manifest my thoughts, which is awesome. You see, when it comes to all things doodley, I am merely an idea person. I leave the heavy lifting to the Irish.

Also, today I had a delightful lunch with someone who doesn’t think Lisa should win Next Food Network Star because he thinks she’s crazy. I nodded as if I, too, think she’s a wackadoo and yet, deep down, I don’t. I’m sorry, Lisa, I sold you down the river and the sad thing is that I don’t even know why. You deserved better, especially after Jenn broke the apricot sauce jar and got glass in your duck confit.

I'm on Red Eye tonight!

What will you do when the phone rings at 3am? You will let it go to voicemail because you’re watching me on Red Eye. Duh!

Now, I couldn’t help but notice the beginnings of some potential bickering in the comments. Let there be no bickering! It’s very un-Alison-Rosen! It’s against the very spirit of that which brings us all together: ME. Can’t we all just love me and celebrate me? Together? Let’s not let our petty differences distract us from the true meaning of this blog.
