On the third episode of Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend, WTF host and podcast superstar Marc Maron was kind enough to let us invade his cat ranch and interview him on his own turf. We talked about sad songs, sad sex, hateful internet trolls and how to handle them, anger and rage and anxiety and insecurity, relationships, interviewing styles, body dysmorphia, Joe Rogan, “Carolla-tards” and how to keep a relationship alive. We also took a question from the phantom topic sombrero and talked about other stuff which was fascinating and scintillating and other words which end in ing but which escape me right now. The stuff we talked about, not the words. I could list a buttload of words ending in ing. We didn’t see any cats, which is curious.
Please love the episode and rate it highly and tell all your friends! And as always, thank you for all the awesome support and feedback!

When you hear Marc Maron doing standup or running his own radio show, it's so clear why he's been unable to break through thus far. When he's trying to make a point and be funny at the same time, the whole thing collapses on itself. On the other hand, in a casual, freestyle format with a narrow window of time, he's actually a little engaging. And Alison has the perfect relaxed interview style to keep him perfectly off-point. Nice job.
Great Job, awesome episode!

Alison was in HP? Damn missed my chance to drive over and show her around town.
Nice job Allison! You did a great job of getting Maron to open up. Great conversation.
Glad you have your own podcast now and I started with this one. Made me think of why I can't listen to too many of the Maron or Carolla shows in a row. It's the quality of their voices, I find 'em kind of …er, grrrrrrating. However, you are always a joy to listen to and you're often heard saying nice things. Keep pumpin out the love. You rock!
Great job Alison. It keeps getting better. Listening to this one in particular made me ask if I am not normal or everyone else is messed up.
This chat was very enjoyable to listen to. You brought out a different side of Marc and the conversation made me feel like he was opening up to me and we were becoming close friends. I feel creepy as I write this to, but I don’t care.
Something on this page that could possibly use some rearranging: if I want to listen AND read the comments, I can’t do it. I hit “play,” then decide to read some reviews, and the sound shuts off as the comment page loads! Could the comments be placed in a pop-up window? And now I’ll listen to the actual episode…WTF and ARIYNBF are the only two podcasts I listen to.

Hurrah… I love the podcast, though I'd change the name. Its such a mouthful when your trying to tell share it with someone. That said, today I learned quite a bit about Marc Maron I didn't know, and I”ve been one of his listeners for years. One of the things I love about pod casting are the revelatory aspects that come through the intimacy of two people sitting down for a dig at the deeper aspects of humanity, something radio gave up on for the most part, decades ago. So thank you Alison Rosen for feeding the hungry souls among us, and good luck to you in your newest venture.

I'd like a more in-depth discussion of what makes a Carolla-tard. What if I quote him? What if I quote him ironically? What if I quote him and intend it to be ironic but everyone knows it's not.

Good stuff, looking forward to the next episode. Really looking forward to when Ace finishes the studio, living room audio takes some getting used to.

Great episode. Marc Maron is always great.
Either its unseasonably cold in Los Angeles, or Marc just can't quit the lower east side. Statue of limitations on hipster knit hats is 50 years old. Also, look at Adam in the picture on the right, then Marc. They issue that uniform when you exit LAX
Seriously though, love Marc and the podcast.

Great podcast. Thanks to Marc for doing the interview. I hope you enjoyed your time at the Cat Ranch. Marc is funnier than Pete Holmes but I'd say Pete would be your go-to guy in the low post.

I understand taking offense to comments people have made but honestly the time it sounds like you take out of your day to dwell on the negetive things these people say that don't even know akes both of you sound completely narcissistic. Or at least demonstrates an inablility to look at the big picture
Great ep, Alison. You are really a great interviewer with a naturalist's style. It's nice to hear you in long form as a change-up to how I usually hear you jumping in-and-out with quips on Adam's podcast.
Right click, open in new tab. Problem solved.
Ah! My friend knit that hat for Marc!

I couldn't get through the first two pods. I like Alison a lot but the two guests really turned it into a steaming pile. This is my last try.

Also lived in ny for ten years (clinton hIll) and everything Mark said about it was EXACTLY how I felt. Unfortunately seems like the only ones who understand how it feels are in my earbuds, not anyone around me.
Digging the show because of Alison…and it doesn't always have to be about the guests, it'll get a groove, maybe you could finally get to some of the news stories that Adam never lets you finish……..or actually barely even start! I hate that. But still.

I was a spotty carolla listener because he's a dick, but AR proved to be a reason to download. Now I can listen without the pain of carolla pandering to his tards. Thanks maron for a new term and thanks Alison for sharing your unique wit.
Really like the term “Rosenating”. Great podcast.

Enjoyable interview. I've heard a lot of interviews with Maron but still learned more about him in this one than I expected. You two had such great chemistry that I was thinking it was lucky you had your producer there to chaperone.
It probably would be better if you follow Maron's format and record an intro where you can talk about whatever you want on the day you post the episode, especially if you're going to record weeks before they go live.
Alison, that Adele song and that stupid booty call song are like top-40 tear gas. Also, my brother and I were a little disappointed you and Brian weren't at the Redondo Beach show. You're like the welcome reprieve after Adam goes too far. (Not that he didn't have us in stitches.)

Yes, best podcast so far. Each one is getting better 🙂

Great 'CAST Ms. Rosen. I listen to yours, Maron's, and Carolla's . Real quick though about today's Adam Carolla podcast (Friday) – this whole Breitbart thing – you and Adam should look into the tweets Breitbart shot out when Ed Kennedy died – like the second he died – with that conduct, he greenlit his own anti-tweeting when he bit it. Also great to hear he was a good guy in his private life, but he absolutely was not in his recent professional life – he was an agent provocateur, and basically a liar – the articles calling him a journalist are completely out of line.
Keep up the good work !

Fan of Ace, Bald Bryan & Alison. Glad Alison has her own pod show. Look forward to more shows. I also listen to Maron's pod. Not a fan of his politics but I'am open enough to listed to his pod.

Great show.
Who would you rather date (egotistical littlemen) : Napoleon Bonaparte or Pablo Picasso?
Who would you rather date (raised in the wild): Tarzan – (raised by apes) Mowgli (raised by wolves)? They are both 26. You have to have Thanksgiving with the parents.
Who would you rather date (right on the money): Alexander Hamilton or Andrew Jackson?

Guess Marc is just not my guy. It's tremendously unpleasant to listen to a 47-year-old proudly exhibit all of the basic signs of emotional decadence. It is not okay to be a “self-aware” unhealthy person… if you're aware of it and not working around the clock to fix it, that actually borders on the unethical.

As a former New Yorker, I felt the same way listening to Marc's depiction.

I like the fact you're branching off and doing your own thing now. You're very bright and sharper than you get credit for on Adam's podcast. It's also nice to hear you finish a thought without anyone interrupting you. My only suggestion is that with the style of podcast you have, which seems to be more of a Maron style than Carolla's, is to error on the side of going shorter than longer until you get really comfortable with the one on one interviews. If you go back and listen to the early Maron podcasts, they were all like 20-30 minutes. I think the better material comes as you sit down with someone over a longer period of time, like Marc mentioned with getting to know someone over an hour, but it's going to take some time for you to develop a rhythm and comfort in interviewing so there aren't these kind of natural lulls and drop offs that occur.
Just my opinion, but I know you'll do well because you're so likable and that's something you either have or you don't.
