On this spooky Halloween episode, we discuss Alison’s new habit of accidentally offending people, bad chiropractor stories, Jensen Karp‘s thick skin regarding comments, #AL’s feelings about “Halloween buffoonery,” #SnackChat involving treats from Minnesota, a round of Just Me Or Everyone and an adoptable dog named Mason.
Also, big news!! My Patreon page which I’ve been talking about for months is now live!!!!!

I haven’t even finished listening to the episode yet, but I just got to work and wanted to comment on the first few minutes – and your worry about how you talk about your body – and offending folks. Jeff and the others were right. Cut it out. So you had someone (or more than one) comment that they were uncomfortable about you talking about being afraid of looking or being fat. SO WHAT.
I can’t think of one woman that I have ever known (including myself) that didn’t worry about that – pregnant or not. No matter what body size. Period. Anyone that has listened to you for any length of time knows that you were heavy for much of your younger years. It really IS a thing. Plus you ARE in the entertainment industry which also hyper focuses on weight. It IS a thing. Further, anyone that has listened to you should know that you really are considerate and not out to hate anyone.
Having said that – there is another thing I want to address and backup your Thursday group. It IS your show. Expressing your fears, worries, insecurities, and yes even your opinions – is what is going to propel the show. If you start NOW second guessing every damned word out of your mouth for fear that you aren’t going to offend someone – just know that you ARE going to offend many many more of your listeners. We are thrilled you include us. This is life. You cannot please all of the people all of the time. It also isn’t your job to take care of people – that is THEIR job. You can only take care of you, and how you react to things. How you choose to act in general.
If in fact people are trying to state that you shouldn’t have any input on women’s body issues because you happen to be attractive and wearing the pregnancy well – fuck them. Don’t pay attention to someone that is trying to bring you down because THEY are unhappy with something in their own life. That really is what it comes down to Alison. People who are unhappy want others to share in that – you see it everywhere. Which really is a shame.
As a side note, I gained an alarming amount of weight during my pregnancy despite being on restrictive diabetic diet (by a nutritionist) and exercising regularly. No matter what I did. I hated it. I also couldn’t really seem to control it. No matter how many tests we did, they could only determine I was “borderline” gestational diabetic. Turns out sometimes genetics just kind of laughs at us and does whatever it wants. So pay attention, eat healthy, read, keep in contact with your doctor – and simply breathe.
(I’m going to try and copy this to paste on Patreon as well)

Love the Thursday show! And I hate people who are “offended” at every little thing. But right now, I’m almost close to sounding like that guy. At the risk of sounding like a parent, I’m not offended or upset, but am disappointed. This is what you were waiting for, Alison!
I gotta say… slicing arteries and having strokes is NOT a chiropractic norm. In the LEAST. It never freaking happens. “He said she said” stuff about 22 people a year come in with this in just this hospital is totally bunk. These are doctors. with 8 years of accessory schooling. The barrier of entry into the school is difficult (though not as difficult as MD or DVM, admittedly- Al knows), and the retention rate of students staying in school shows the challenge of the education. I have worked in chiropractic offices for years, and am starting school next fall, so I know some stuff about this topic, to say the least.
There are REALLY shitty chiropractors out there, and hey, I’m glad people recognize that. But they are few and far between. I am glad you all are speaking about what you feel and that’s why I love listening to the show. However, it was so freaking weird to me that ALL of you were so uneducated on chiropractic. You can find a chiropractor that is wonderful and right for you- adjustments can be gentle and there is no need for dramatic neck twisting if that makes you nervous.
We see so many babies and children in our office. It is so sad to me that the old stigmas of chiropractic being unsafe and ineffective for children is still going strong in some areas. We specialize in families in our office, and see tons of pregnant mamas every week (from newly pregnant up through delivery- even during delivery to help keep the pelvis and sacrum in alignment). It is not just for back and neck pain. It is proven to enhance immune system function and allow your body to heal itself more easily, without medication or other interference. We help children with ADHD, allergies, ear infections, sleeping problems, and so much more. It is so much better than going to a doctor and getting stuffed full of medication when you don’t need it. And again, it is gentle.
Anyway! I usually say “go fuck yourself” to “that guy” who just has to say their feelings on a subject when they don’t agree, but I really wanted to take a moment to educate on this topic, even if it doesn’t really make a difference to you, maybe someone else will read it and become more educated on the topic. Plus, if Jensen believes in eastern medicine voodoo and crystals then this proven science shouldn’t be too far of a stretch for him.
I wait for your show every week and will continue to listen and I love you guys!!! But I just couldn’t let this one sit. I’m curious about the new trend of bashing legitimate professions that help thousands, but I’m game to see where it goes. You are historically not a very negative person on the show, but are good at exploring things you disagree with with grace and dignity- but this was just so uneducated and straight up wrong I had to comment. JUST HAD TO. I have no will power. More baby bod talk, snack chat, and diary reads instead maybe?!
In conclusion, my life is a sham, I love the show!
I’m sad that Greg is no longer a regular but I’ve gotta say I’m loving Jensen on the show! It’s almost like Greg was never here and Jenson was on the whole time 😋
The White Ford Bronco does indeed tour around and I think has had many owners. Maybe it wouldn’t even be that hard to take it off someone’s hands! I saw “White Ford Bronco” on the calendar of events going on in the park near my building and I thought it might be the car in question, but it turned out to just be the name of a 90s cover band. Topical!
Firstly, love the show!! Secondly, wow. The chiropractor dissing. I totally thought the general perception of chiropractors (especially in CA where I grew up) had changed in the last four decades, but clearly not. My dad was a chiropractor from 1972 (got his degree there in Hollywood) until he retired around 2010. I grew up w/ adjustments and we (there were five of us kids) were all very healthy, hardly ever getting sick. So, just wanted to let you know (as trieckx stated also) there are good, ethical chiropractors out there. Just sayin’! 🙂
The last time I wore a Halloween costume, I was a Man in Black, everyone thought I was just dressed up.
OMFG! I love Jensen on the show!
