Comedian and podcaster April Richardson stopped by, hoarse from singing David Bowie songs at the top of her lungs the night before, to talk about all sorts of stuff including growing up an only child and how she thinks that impacts her relationships today, what she was like as a kid, not getting along with her stepdad or stepbrothers, her relationship with her mom, her relationship with her father who she only met a handful of times, how she felt when she learned her father was dying, forgiveness and anger in general, dating type A guys, living in England with an unrequited crush before coming back and going to college, her obsession with Bob Odenkirk, working at Chelsea Lately, recently meeting Mark-Paul Gosselaar (she’s the world’s biggest Saved by the Bell fan and hosts Go Bayside!) and her thoughts on marriage, ghosts and pedicures. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Another great episode! I discovered April through Alison’s appearance on her podcast, Go Bayside, which was hilarious and got me hooked on the podcast in general as a result! her perspective on her dad was interesting and something that my husband can totally relate to. Like April, he doesn’t feel bitter, but just indifferent toward his father. It was also interesting in comparison to the way that Jay Larson described his relationship with his dad.
Very honest interview – wish I was strong enough to be able to fully enjoy this level of honesty. I’m much more accommodating to most people in my life, like them or not. I also worry that I might sound bitchy if I put my feelings / interests first.
Another excellent interview by Alison. The Monday shows are often as entertaining as the Thursday shows, but obviously much different. I really only knew Ape from @midnight, where I have enjoyed her no holds barred comedy. She and Jen Kirkman really shine in that format. I immensely enjoy 1st time(?) guests being so open and getting deep. It lets us as listeners get to know much about the person in a short amount of time. I’m sure it’s not simply coincidence that she and her mother had the same paternal experience. I applaud April for breaking the cycle and dating nice guys who have their stuff together. I’m also fairly certain Alison knew the answer before asking if April was romantically interested in Neil. He may have known of April’s feelings at the time, but we guys can be completely oblivious to such situations, in general.
Alison – having gone through the gamete of fertility I want to send you all the support and good vibes. Stay with it, go multi – IVF if you have to. Change doctors if necessary. My daughter is now 8 and my life. Of course her brother came naturally, unexpectedly the next year. Don’t give up. If you have endo, get the surgery first. All the best.
