If you’re going to be funny (and you are) with sarcasm and/or feigned ignorance in the service of a joke, you’re going to lose a certain percentage of people along the way. Keep up the good work!

Just throw the jokes out Alison. You’re funny and we’ll laugh. If the jokes don’t work, who cares? Keep it up. 🙂

  3. Rob May 2, 2011 at 9:41 am #

Absolutely… you are funny, don’t worry about it.

The lowest common denominator is often the vocal majority. If you are being honest with yourself, how much does making idiots laugh interest you.

    Quit reading comments.

That said, I get most of your jokes. You gots jokes girl.

Stop reading comments. And yes, I appreciate the irony of telling you to stop reading comments.

The vocal minority skews towards assholes. You’re hilarious on the show, and a great comedic foil for Adam.

You’re a smart, funny chick. No time for self doubt – keep doing your schtick because your new fans are here and we love you. (Apostrophes withheld intentionally)

DO NOT read the comments. I repeat, DO NOT read the comments. Unfunny twats litter the message boards and it’s not worth your time or talent.

You are SO not a jerk. I always tell people that Alison keeps it real! (I don’t actually do that but I would if we had mutual acquaintances).
Anyway, I think people get your references. If not and they judge, they are dumb. The rest of us who typically do not post comments realize this and, I would assume, are in the vast majority in comparisson to the posters.
Keep up the good work and talk more often on cam while holding something!

Why are women so obsessed with wanting to get married, when whenever they talk about men all they do is complain about how awful they all are? That said, Alison, you’re super hot and smart and funny, so I can only imagine that if you really do want to get married, and you’re not married, then I can only surmise that you’re standards are probably unrealistic. That knight in shining armor doesn’t exist.

Wow… I think I’m going to just give up on the podcast and stick with your vlogs. This one was really compelling… way deeper than the mere “banter” you say you prefer. I can sympathize with your feelings about reading comments. I used to really get into it on message boards and blogs, but all of a sudden I had an epiphany that getting upset and arguing with ignorant strangers was not at all satisfying and was a colossal waste of time, so I just stopped. It’s way less stressful this way. And the story about your friend was very poignant… I hope things go well for her.

Meanwhile, today’s podcast was practically unlistenable… will Adam EVER take a trip and not come back with an airport “horror” story? Funny how most people do their traveling, and never give the airport experience a second thought.

And then on top of that, he’s going to whine that he doesn’t get to stay at the Four Season, doesn’t get to ride in a private jet, and has to stay late at shows to accommodate autograph-seekers? Yeah, I’m sure everyone listening is going sympathize with these kind of hardships. For crissakes…

And then if this weren’t enough, as the Bin Laden news broke, when even the worst partisan instigators on Fox News were saying this was one of those days where we’re all Americans, this prick figures it’s a good time to take shots at the Left over words that HE’S putting in their mouths. Fucking Asshole.

Looking forward to your next gig, whenever and wherever it may be…

Alison, when Teresa became a fulltime co-host and the podcast many of the die-hard Carolla fans on the message boards, maybe even a small majority of them, hated her and threatened to stop listening. Adam, on the other hand, appreciated her presence enough to allow for their natural chemistry from the KLSX era to reestablish itself. During this timeframe, the podcast went from barely cracking the top 25 on iTunes to being within the top five podcasts on a weekly basis. If Adam likes the work you are doing, and if he vocally shows enjoyment while engaging with you, then rest assured that most Adam listeners enjoy your style as well.

Completely relate on the marriage thing. It was never my big dream as a kid or anything, but it IS one of those things you kind of expect to do at SOME point. And when you hit your mid-thirties and find that suddenly everyone you know is married but you….it’s hard not to feel like a bit of a loser, and like you’re missing out on something.

  24. tedder42 May 2, 2011 at 7:21 pm #

I’m smartish but I don’t get 100% of the jokes. I’m happy when they go over my head, it’s nice to balance Ace with solid intelligence.

Where was the wig store? Is it one of the big ones on Wilshire in Miracle Mile? Or somewhere in the Orange Curtain?

Just wanted to say that this is the kind of vlog that Alison does on a rare occasion that has made me a True Rosenfan over the past few years. Although, Alison’s usual vlog is full of witt, humor, and other intelligent entertainment, she on occasion opens up a little part of herself to reveal the inner beauty of her character. Alison starts this blog with pure humility that is driven with unsubstantiated feelings of guilt.

Alison! I think most of us realize that there are lots of people on the Internet that are stupid, and most of the stupid ones make negative comments. This is always how it will be. Don’t be afraid of them, but keep those comments in perspective as well. If you sucked as bad as everyone one of those negative comments say, Carolla would have bounced you at the end of February. However, I love that you take these negative comments to heart. It shows how much you want everyone to love you. It’s an impossible goal, but not a bad one to have as long as you are realistic that the goal is impossible. Don’t let it consume the goodness in you. Additionally, the end of your vlog just confirms what I’ve just said. You have heart! I love how you can be so empathetic. Not a lot of people can do that. I think your feeling of sadness was because you probably tapped into the real pain that this woman probably had already come to terms with. Did you see yourself a little bit in her shoes? Maybe it is more because of the empathy you have, rather than the selfishness of thinking of yourself as a “someday-wacky-cat-lady.”

Adam brings a unique perspective, that means sometimes it isn’t going to appeal to everyone. I don’t agree with some of the things he says, such as the comments regarding the left wingers predictably admonishing the celebrations. But you know, it did make me think through that issue more than I would have otherwise, because I tend to enjoy having my viewpoints questioned.

This seems to be hard for some people to believe, and trust me, I not always like it, but I am appreciative to hear a different viewpoint from someone I have already established other common ground with. That makes me analyze why can we agree on this, but seem diametrically opposed on that?

I came to a couple conclusions that involved shared ignorance, Morgan Spurlock’s experience with Middle Easterners, an NPR show I heard last week detailing the Prisoners Dilemma … but finally I decided that I just wished we’d act like we’d been there before, but in this instance let the kids celebrate, maybe it will help Obama get re-elected.

I’m glad you touched on the “taxi driver” comments. I’ve listened to the podcasts on Stitcher every day on my way to work for months now. After the whole “people talk to us like they are just as good as us” (Thought that is not what or how it was said, through some listeners perspectives it could have been interpreted that way), it was the first time I was really turned off from the show. It made me second guess who I should be admiring.
I was already especially sensitive at that point considering that I went to the Milwaukee show on the 29th, and looooved the show by the way, but had a really disappointing experience after the show when the fans got to meet Adam. Let me preface this by saying I drove 2 hours to see Adam’s show by myself, because none of my friends felt like spending $40 on tix to see some guy that “used to be famous on tv more than 10 years ago. I bought gas with credit because I had -$65 in my checking account. Bought his book months ago and even though I listen via Stitcher… I download every podcast on iTunes so that he can be counted towards the Guinness book of whatever he’s been striving for. I bought shit via Adam’s website on Amazon to support his show, because I am truly and sincerely grateful that I can listen to the podcast for free. It gets me laughing and gets me thinking and with the rough times I’ve been going through, starting my day with a laugh means so much. I’m not going to get into bitchy and “moany” details, but I was rushed through like I was a dog in the Iditarod. I wasn’t expecting more than 20 seconds with the dude, but was hoping not to catch the buzz kill from one of Adam’s “peeps” whom was telling me to “hurry up” after literally 5 seconds. My point being: My mindset on the way home from the show was… Why is someone with -$65 in their checking account giving a shit about how they support their millionaire idols?…. Couldn’t wait to hear about what Adam would say about the Milwaukee crowd, because we really did kick ass that night. Then I hear the comments about “Omg people talk to me like they deserve to talk to me” and I was really insulted. A bit of a “straw that broke the camel’s back” situation. But really Alison, when I do tune into your vlog you never disappoint because you’re willing to make yourself vulnerable to a bunch of strangers, and I can tell you really let your guard down for this one. Thanks for acknowledging those comments. You are always so real and it means a lot to your fans.

Alison I actually have been liking your biting little background comments in the last few podcasts. Gastineau, to this, to that. They are really witty. Adam and the rest may just ignore them from time to time, but dude I totally get them. Don’t worry Alison your life may be bad in some ways, but your vulnerability really helps me survive my life. I’m formerly from LA, now stuck up in a jacked up small town with white racists, all because I have to work here. So having you on the postcast is a breath of fresh air.
Oh feeling sorry you don’t have a boyfriend. Dude I’m the real life 37 year old virgin but at the same time I’m a doctor?! Go figure?
Stay strong girl, you a super hot both in face and bod!
    Ok was that too much?!
    Peace out

Hello I just found this site and looking forward to listening and looking. I find you very attractive and funny.

I was thinking of a great interview everyone would like to hear. It would be great if you interviewed Adam’s parents and wife with Adam not present.  I would love to get their side of the story.  Afterwards you can play the interview on the podcast where Adam could comment.

    p.s.

i have a suggestion for a closing news remark.

“I am Alison Rosen and that’s the news. It’s time for me to shut my bleed hole.”   I know, its kind of rough but funny.
