Is Bald Bryan as smug and arrogant on this podcast as he is on ACS? Seriously, dude, other than milking your cancer and marrying someone with a good job, what have you accomplished in your life?

Well aren't we the queen of mean? Besides in the interest of equality, I'm all for role reversal. Why should women have all the fun?

Wow …. just wow. It seems clear that you are more than the queen of mean, you are seriously misinformed. Bryan never has “milked” his cancer – he has an incurable brain tumor – how would it even be possible to “milk” that ? As to “marrying someone with a good job” – when he and Christie got married, she too had lost her job – that is part of the miracle of their partnership, they survived a devastating medical diagnosis, loss of both of their jobs, followed by Christie's own medical misadventure and yet … still a loving, happy, supportive couple. I hardly think anyone whose sat next to Adam Carolla for a decade could ever be considered smug or arrogant.. Does it make you feel better somehow to trash funny, intelligent, sincere people trying to do good in the world and if so why ? 500 words grammar and spelling count, enlighten us please.

Listeners who donated money to Bryan during the fundraiser initiated by Adam and friends was done in the spirit of demonstrating their support and concern for him. They were not (or most certainly should not) have been expecting an itemized EOB from his medical providers, showing medical debt. If you've ever had more than the common cold here in the good ol' U.S. of A you must know you can be crushed by the debt long before your illness kills you.

The notion that donors should be upset that Bryan and Christie were able to go away together to have some time together which wasn't completely polluted with horrific cancer treatment compounded by the mind bending stress of knowing that regardless of how well the treatment went, ultimately he would never be cancer free.

I hope that you are not facing a terminal diagnosis, but it seems hard to imagine if this was the case, you would want and expect some basic level of humanity and compassion from other human beings on the planet. Hopefully you'll never be faced with having to go to sleep each night with the knowledge you very well might not see your 40th birthday, or the idea that if you were to decide to have children, that the decision to do so is made with the understanding that you might not get to see them go to kindergarten, play little league or attend a ballet recital much less graduate from HS or college or walk your daughter down the isle.

Obviously, your not going to like everyone in this world, but it seems that a certain level of compassion based silence would be not only appropriate, but the decent and kind thing to do. If you were a listener to the radio show when all this went down, you should remember Drew's reaction to Bryan's situation. This isn't a bunion or a broken bone. Lastly, due to the deep appreciation Bryan felt to all the listeners who helped he and Christie when he was initially diagnosed, he has volunteered countless hours on behalf of the brain tumor walk and wrote a book to help other cancer victims as his way to “pay it forward”. If he was just scamming for cash clearly all this would be unnecessary or at the very least unlikely. I do not doubt that going to Europe with his wife was as helpful to his complete recovery as the hours spent in a PT room at Cedars. Don't like Bryan, great, bashing a guy with an incurable brain tumor, pretty low.

    In Ben Lee's defense:
“BBB is the man and AR is beautiful” is what Ben Lee wrote after Alison's interview with Bald Bryan last year.

If BB was sincere about “fighting cancer”, his donated money from the fundraiser would be donated to the SPECIFIC cancer treatment research project that saved his life minus his living expenses during his bed ridden time.

BB says that his monthly cancer treatment costs tens of thousand per treatment. My question would be “why does it cost so much?” and “how can I affect lowering that cost for people in the future”.

BB is smart enough to realize that once someone “donates / gives cash for someone to pay their bills with” then those people will question his buying a home, going to Europe, going to wine tastings, etc, etc.

It is the conundrum of asking for a “hand out” no matter if it is used to pay legal bills, fund a honeymoon, or fund a for profit movie. People will always judge the use of the money.

Please do not attack me that BB did not ask for the benefit fund raiser, my point is that people who give money – no matter the cause – have a level of expectation about the use of the money. That is human nature. BB – by accepting the “monetary gift” must then suffer the slings and arrows of the public.

I wish BB and his wife all the blessings that can come there way and I hope that they can publicly demonstrate their appreciation and “pay it forward” when they find someone else in need. I believe that they do appreciate the friends and family that donated when BB and his wife were at a low point. This is the definition of Charity.

Alison – keep up the good work – great interview.

    Take careful.

The “smug” thing a couple ppl have mentioned totally confuses me. He's the last person I would think of as smug. I'm wondering if perhaps his sense of humor is just too dry or deadpan at times for some or if he goes from one type of humor to another and it's confusing / misleading to some? I'm trying to think of a public figure I think of as “smug” and honestly no examples are coming to me so maybe I'm just not understanding the word, even. Who knows.

    Anyhow:

I've always loved BB and completely knocked over when he got so sick and omg when he was slurring his words on the show it made me cry because I was so worried for him. When he got married and the ceremony was talked about on the show I cried again! I love Christie, too – she is lovely. Can't wait to support BB by buying and reading his book 🙂 I've got nothing but love for the Bishops.

if he were a politician, this would certainly make the news that the charity drive funds were used for entertainment. that's just flat out immoral.
