Hanging out with Fred Armisen, being that person

Here I am with my new best friend, Fred Armisen. I meet all sorts of neat people now that I’m doing the show but I don’t usually take photos with them because I don’t want to be that person but on this night I decided to be. I should probably be that person more often, you know? (Note: That person meaning the person who takes photos with people, not the person who hangs out with people, which I so totally always am.) (Another note: I never am.)

And then here we are recording the podcast live at the Jon Lovitz comedy club. In the first photo I am keeping a respectful distance from Dr. Drew. In the second I’m keeping a respectful distance from Jeff Ross. The minute we got offstage I was all over them though. (Note: the minute we got offstage I actually went to the bathroom and then hung out with my parents)

So how was Dr. Drew you are likely wanting to know? He was really nice. Here’s what I think: Most performers you meet are probably more comfortable on stage or in front of a crowd than in social situations. Dr. Drew meanwhile seemed completely at ease just shaking hands with people and relating, probably because he is a doctor first, then a performer, whereas I am a performer first and then an astronaut. You know?

Respectful distance? I understand creating a bubble of safety around Ross, but you couldn't get further away from Drew without getting lost between the seat cushions. Damned wallflower! Get in there! Dr. Drew makes me wish I was gay. Actually, Dr. Drew makes me wish I was Dr. Drew. Could it really get better than *being* Dr. Drew?

Gee, you have a pretty smile.

For sure, the sheepish, quiet comments are the funniest part of the show

Your newscast fits the Adam Carolla Podcast like a glove. And not in the fingers-overly-flexed-on-Orenthal-James-Simpson-so-the-glove-that-actually-fits-doesn't-fit kind of way. I mean in a way that would make Mrs. Garrett, Blair, Jo, Tutti and Natalie relocate to Southern California to shower you with their Eastland spirit as a token of their appreciation. Please keep up the good work. The show just gets better and better.
  • That smile is deadly, Alison.

I thought I noticed a little spark between you and Fred, too...? Love, love, love your intellect and wit on the show, you're the perfect companion to Adam. p.s. can I go ahead and assume we are new best friends?
  • yes you can!
  • Andrew
    Wow. Alison. You are amazing.
    Let's get married.
  • Okay!
  • Andrew
    K. Sweet!
You get Canadian & British citizenship out of this deal.
And I get the world's coolest wife.

I agree wholeheartedly with the last guy. I think that my favorite comments are the ones that no one hears. I'm sure it gets frustrating to have such consistent wit slide in without notice, but we at home love them. Keep it up!
  • Thank you!
  • I liked Fred from the first time he was on SNL playing some foreign guy going "I'm just kid-ing!!!". Seems like a really nice guy, too...Seen Prince 15 times....That's devotion....

I dunno. I think Fred likes you. GrrrooOOoowwwl.

Don't let Adam intimidate you, you're hysterical and you need to talk more freely during his interviews (he has a tendency to make the interview all about him (GASP) and some of your insightful witty questions would get things back on track and gear the interview away from Adams stories we've all heard a million times and more towards the guest (Example where you could have interjected: The Fred Armisen interview where Adam didn't let Fred get a word in)
  • I loved your little "under the radar" comments. "How many inches?" was my fave from today's show (RE: Adam mentioning the "knife in the ass". Does Adam take a while to react, or is that just my perception? Cheers, Neil.
