Turn that smile upside down

This story is all kinds of sad and for some reason it’s the fact that Travis went to die in his sleeping quarters that’s really getting me. Also the butcher knife thing. Wouldn’t you keep a taser or something on hand for these situations? Or maybe this is just so unheard of. Regardless I’m glad I never had to deal with anything like this with Fred The Jade Plant.

Yeah, that was unnecessary. “Numerous times” and “several times” was unnecessary. Some tranquilizers would’ve done the job, as this was probably just a seizure. I felt sad, too, when I read that he retreated back and died in his quarters.

Wild animals should never be pets. Things like this is the reason why. The number one pet that people shouldn’t have…pythons! I just think it’s sad that people can’t just be happy with cats and dogs for pets.

I can’t blame the officer for what he did. He was in the middle of being attacked by a wild animal.

Yes, it was sad the way he went back to his home. The Chimpanzee doesn’t mean harm, or understand what he did. But that’s why some animals aren’t cut out to be domestic pets. It’s for their own protection, too.

This was unfortunate but it needs to be noted the chimp had already severely injured one person and also that chimps can rip the arm off of a human with very little effort. Waiting for animal control could have given the chimp another chance to maim someone, as he was already being aggressive to the police and going after them inside of a patrol car. And just one more point, the owner of 15 years could not control the chimp while he was attacking her friend and stabbing the chimp had already failed to stop the attack, so shooting the poor thing was the best they could do during this emergency situation 🙁

Those damn cops! I feel so bad for this chimp…actually I wish he could have been my pet! If only those cops new mixed martial arts they could have arm-barred the chimp to the ground and handcuffed him! “fight the power”

Wow, very sad story. But I agree that people who own these animals don’t “get it” – they’re WILD ANIMALS! They shouldn’t be domesticated. Owners are lured into a false sense of security because the animals can behave for long periods of time before suddenly getting voilent.

This kind of thing happens over and over. The animals never lose their primal instincts. If they feel threatened, they WILL attack. That sounds like what happened here – the chimp didn’t recognize the woman approaching him from the car. Unfortunately in this case, the owner had to learn that lesson the hard way.

Speaking of Fred, Alison, didn’t he throw a piece of pie at you once? See – even with a Jade plant you take your chances!

This was certainly an unfortunate incident.

But how would you feel if a human bit her hands off? Would you still be sad that the attacker was shot?

Chimps are not stupid, they know what fingers are for, and what it means to lose them.

a CNN commentator made a good point about the impossibility of ever truly domesticating a wild animal, no matter how much a person might want it to to be domesticated
