I’m curious about the English degree – what authors or poets did (or do) you particularly like?

In the Activity Pit the other day, quite a few were professing love for Ayn Rand. Some (more than I expected) were reading Malcolm Gladwell, which I would think is a more “New Yorker” type of reader type thing.

I moved from Burbank, CA to NYC soon after 9/11 as well. I was raised here however and had moved to California to write but soon realized that all that nice weather made it difficult. There is nothing like 3 straight days of rain or snow or sweltering heat melting the pavement to make me want to stay inside and “punch the keys”.

(It helps if you imagine Sean Connery yelling those last three words)

Great list...the guitar bits are especially interesting. I pretty much live my life with a guitar in my hands (I can't feel anything with my left hand fingertips and my ring finger is curved to the right).

Also, I would put puppies in front of babies on the cute scale. Babies, while cute, all look like fat balls of fat so I can't really tell a difference.

Anyway, I decided to be hip and happnin' for once and broke over and did my own.

I don't "get" the whole 25 random things thing, but I began writing mine down anyway and got a headache after #3. Here's how far I got:

1. I can tie a pefect Windsor knot.

2. I once climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with Al Gore. At the top I said, "Hey Al, where's all the snow???" The next thing you know, he's making a documentary.

3. I dated Monica Lewinsky for a while before she went to work in the Clinton White House. She left me because I don't smoke cigars.

Actually, only one of those is true.
